ONIONS

ONIONS

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people, there was a Doctor who visited many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it, and many died.
The doctor came upon one farmer, and to his surprise, everyone in the household was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different, the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a Dish in the rooms of the home (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one, and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.
Hope this tip is healthy for you all.

Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar reacts during their practice at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Tuesday, March 22, 2011. Pakistan will play their Cricket World Cup quarterfinal match against West Indies on Wednesday.

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan wants to see fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar restored to the Pakistan team if it plays India in the World Cup semifinals.

Akhtar hasn't played since the defeat by New Zealand midway through the group stage and has since announced he will end his 14-year international career following the tournament.

Khan said in Thurday's edition of the Urdu language newspaper Daily Express that the 35-year-old Akhtar "should get a chance and share the new ball with Umar Gul" if India beats Australia on Thursday and sets up a semifinal against Pakistan.

Pakistan has won all its games since Akhtar was dropped, culminating in Wednesday's 10-wicket victory over West Indies in the quarterfinal.

Refused a kiss, 92-year-old woman fires gun

By Reuters
ST. PETERSBURG (Reuters) - Helen Staudinger, 92, wanted a kiss, and authorities say she wouldn't take no for an answer.

The central Florida woman fired a semi-automatic pistol four times at her 53-year-old neighbor's house after he refused to kiss her, police said on Tuesday.

"If my head would have been over just a little bit further, (a bullet) probably would have hit me in the back of the head," the neighbor, Dwight Bettner, told Reuters.

Staudinger was in jail on Tuesday, a day after being arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and shooting into a dwelling.

According to a police report, Staudinger told deputies she went to Bettner's house in Fort McCoy, Florida, and refused to leave until he gave her a kiss.

When he said no, they argued and she left angry, the report said.

Bettner said he was on the phone with his father moments later when he heard gunshots. One bullet went through a window, spraying him with glass.

The former law enforcement officer said his elderly neighbor had seemed attracted to him since he moved in six months ago.

"I've taken her trash out for her, just neighborly stuff," Bettner said. "I guess she just took that as something else."

Paper Cups Usage Warning

Paper Cups Usage Warning
Subject: Paper Glass for Tea

*BEWARE OF PAPER CUPS IN YOUR PANTRY!*

An IT professional working at Techno park, was finding himself with an upset
stomach every night and this went on for several weeks. While normal medical
checks revealed nothing wrong in him, deeper probes revealed the reason that
his stomach was collecting significant amounts of wax. Doctors surprised
wondered where from the wax came. On investigating, they identified the
villain - the ordinary paper cups this IT professional used for drinking his
tea at his office pantry was the culprit.

Disposable paper cups have become quite popular in office pantries due to
the convenience it offers. What many overlook is the fact that these paper
cups are coated with a tiny layer of wax, which is essential to prevent
water from seeping into the paper. When very hot
liquid is poured over this cup, the wax disintegrates and a little comes
off, which is promptly sent along with the drink into our stomachs! While
our body can discard minor amounts, over long-term, it does become a
problem. So what can be done about it?

You can try to bring your own glass cups. Glass is one of the least reactive
materials in the world (remember acids are stored in glass vessels, blood
samples are collected in glass plates - these are for a good reason).
However, glass does have the problem of breaking easily,
so it requires good care. Ceramic cups are probably the best bet. Of course,
you can also use your ordinary stainless steel glass.

But never use paper ones - its dangers are worse than wax!

Please share this with your friends, colleagues, loved one, and the ones you
can.
